Intersectional Psychotherapist and Chartered Psychologist: Dr Nilu Ahmed

Hello, my name is Nilufar or Nilu (pr. Nee-loo) for short.

With over 20 years of experience working in mental health, I bring skills from my evidence-based academic training an ongoing work as a psychologist, as well a real grounded approach from my work in the community engaging with people from all walks of life.

My intersectional approach means that I apply a holistic lens in my work. You can read more about it here. As well as my counselling and psychotherapy qualifications, I am an academic with a background and training in Psychology and Geography. It might seem like an odd mix, but essentially I am fascinated by the dynamic relationship between people and place – how does where we live (the place, the space, the people) make us who we are; and how do we, as individuals and communities (with our individual traits, our cultural frameworks, beliefs) transform spaces? I bring all this to my therapy work which is characterised by a passionate curiosity about people.

My training is Integrative, which allows me to be more flexible in how I work with you. There is not one particular discipline I follow at the exclusion of others, but I am guided by you and use my expertise and knowledge to find the best way for us to work together. What remains constant, regardless of style of counselling, is my absolute commitment to helping us create a space where you can feel comfortable and safe.

I work across many areas but have specific expertise in working with racial, cultural, and religious diversities; the complex ways in which they frame experiences and interactions, and the conflicts that can arise navigating spaces of belonging.
